The GREAT CHICKEN Race

The First Annual Great Chicken Race took place in August of 1981 at the annual San Juan County Fair on San Juan Island, Washington. Leonard Knowles, the Poultry Superintendent, came up with the idea to give the department participants a fun activity, while creating an entertaining event for the Fair. Burrell Osburn became an icon, always bringing humor and challenge to the race!
